Why is Tetouan the 1st and Mazembe the 3rd

Three teams with 8 points, how to decide between them? A look at the rules of the competition to explain this ranking with Moghreb Tetouan, Al Hilal and Mazembe totaling 8 points each. Chapter III, section 20 explains the timing and format of the competition.

III. FIXTURES AND FORMAT OF THE COMPETITION (see page 4 of the Regulation of the Champion’s League) Point 20 (see page 6 of the Champion’s League regulations) 20. In case of equality of points between two teams at the end of the group matches, the teams will be using the following criteria as per the order listed below: 20.1 The greatest number of points obtained in the matches between the concerned teams. 20.2. The best goal difference in the matches between the concerned teams. 20.3. The greatest number of scored goals in the away matches between the concerned teams. 20.4. The goal difference from all the matches played in the group. 20.5. The greatest number of goals scored in all group matches. 20.6. A draw will be conducted by the Interclubs Committee. |

- Al Hilal 8 points on all matches, 5 points in direct confrontations, 0 as the goal difference ;
- TP Mazembe 8 points on all matches, 2 points in direct confrontations, as -1 goal difference.
