COACH OF RAVENS FRUSTRATED

VELUD: « Mentally, Medeama wanted more »

August 15, 2016

Hubert VELUD speaking of the match against Medeama which ended in failure on the wire. The first defeat in the group phase. Excerpts of the speech of the Ravens coach in press conference:

"Accept three goals is too much when you want to have a positive result away. The only point that I have loved about this game is the performance of my players in the second half. At 2-0 we had the ability to go up. What I did not understand is that at the end of the game, the referee decided to play more than five minutes and let Medeama come back into the match on a disputed position. Yet with 2-2 up in the 90th minute, it was difficult for us to manage the game before a team that had dropped itself on the pitch. So to go beyond the minutes indicated for extra time, it was hard to stand it."

It was a test match...

"Anyway, we are disappointed because when TPM is present in a stadium, that's for a win. It’s part of the club's image to prepare the next step, we wanted to win even if the first goal was to play the semifinals. We failed to dominate Medeama for an hour, we managed to do so for at least 25 minutes when we put our two goals. We then found the true Mazembe but it was not enough compared to what we did before.

We were inconsistent and not regular enough in our game for several minutes. Returning to the game intermittently while being dangerous before the Ghanaian goal. The second half was to our advantage but congratulations to Medeama who fought until the end. Mentally, Medeama wanted the victory more than us. "
