Mohamed SALAH (Liverpool), a deserved coronation
CAF AWARDS: NO TITLE FOR TPM
Mohamed SALAH, King of Africa 2017
January 7, 2018
On the invitation of CAF, TPM was represented by its sports director, Frédéric KITENGIE, during the AITEO Awards night, Thursday in Accra, Ghana. Although the club of Lubumbashi did not get on the podium, its young striker Ben MALANGO is among the top performers on the continent. A nice encouragement for an early career. Here is the report of the evening on cafonline.com.
Egyptian striker Mohamed SALAH was crowned King of Africa 2017 on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the Accra International Conference Center, during the Aiteo CAF Awards 2017 Ceremony. With 625 points, he fended off from the overall standings his teammate of Liverpool, Senegalese Sadio MANE with 507 points and Gabonese Dortmund Pierre-Emerick AUBAMEYANG (winner in 2015) with 311 points. This is the first time since the establishment of the trophy by CAF in 1992, that an Egyptian player picked the top most prize as N°1 of Africa.
Vice-champion of Africa 2017 with the Pharaohs, he scored 38 goals in all competitions and delivered 19 assists in 59 matches played throughout the year, in club as in selection. SALAH also played an influential role in qualifying the Pharaohs for the 2018 Russia World Cup, a performance that all Egypt had been waiting for since 1990. Egypt has also won two other trophies, that of the best national team and the best coach for Argentina's Hector CUPER.
There were two Platinum Awards, one to Ghana President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the other to the World football icon, George Weah, now President elect of Liberia
The event was beamed live to millions across the world. A series of artists accompanied the ceremony with their talent, Toofan from Togo, Fally Ipupa from DR Congo, Shatta Wale and Kidi, and seven Nigerians Patoranking, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Runtown, Olamide, Phyno and Flavour.
