For their first match of qualifying for the AFCON 2017 in group L, the Malawi's Flames have lost the early Saturday June 13th afternoon in front of Zimbabwe (1-2). At Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, the comrades of Captain Joseph KAMWENDO suffered throughout the game before conceding 8 minutes before the end in an unstoppable shot from Khama BILLIAT, Mamelodi Sundowns striker.
Already in the 20th, the Warriors from Zimbabwe opened the scoring by Cuthbert MALAJILA taking advantage of the awkwardness by the defender Harry NYIRENDA. On a counter-attack by the Flames, a minute later, John BANDA equalized allowing the team of Captain Joseph KAMWENDO for hope at home. But the draw escapes them quite close the goal.
On their side, the Zimbabwean national team arrived in Blantyre in a bus that broke down Friday evening. Despite the financial difficulties the federation is facing and all organizational glitches arising therefrom, the Warriors were able to launch these playoffs with a victory.
