A Malagasy AHMAD, new boss of CAF

Ahmad AHMAD already has a brilliant career in sport

HAYATOU’S REIGN IS OVER

A Malagasy AHMAD, new boss of CAF

March 18, 2017

Issa Hayatou was a candidate for an 8th time, he had to step down. After 28 years of reign, the Cameroonian president of the Confederation of African Football hands over to the Malagasy Ahmad AHMAD, 57, elected with 34 votes against 20, this Thursday 16 in Addis Ababa.

After Blatter at FIFA, Platini at UEFA, CAF has in turn entrusted the reins to a new boss. Football is experiencing an era of change that is conducive to many reforms.

The new boss of African football is a former Minister of Sports of Madagascar, but also of the very important fisheries portfolio, and currently senator. It was in 2013 in Marrakech that Ahmad went out from the wood by being elected to the CAF Executive Committee as a representative of the South Zone at the expense of the powerful South African Danny JORDAN, a surprise victory in the second round Ballot. Last September, he missed one of the two positions of CAF representatives on the FIFA Board for one vote.

AHMAD winner with 14 votes ahead, largely owes his election to COSAFA (14 members) the Confederation of Southern African Countries. He announced a three-term limitation for the president, an increase in the number of participants in the final round of the AFCON and a better tracing of the subsidies granted to the Federations by FIFA.

Constant OMARI re-elected

Finally, the Congolese Federation President Omari Constant Selemani OMARI (RD Congo) was elected with 35 votes ahead of Augustin Sidy DIALLO (Ivory Coast) 19 votes as CAF Representative to the FIFA Council. All our compliments to the President of FECOFA.
