David BWALYA at school of knowledge in Yaoundé

May 9, 2017

From May 1st to 3rd, CAF had organized in Yaoundé a workshop of the medical doctors whose teams are qualified in group stage of its clubs competitions. One of the TPM's medical doctors, Dr. David BWALYA KALABA, took part in this workshop, focusing on five themes. On his return from Cameroon, David BWALYA spoke at length with his other colleagues and members of the medical staff in terms of restitution of all what he learned during this workshop.

Informing physicians about teams on the new CMAM (pre-competition exams); Introduce them on the CMS (Competition Management System); Prepare the new trauma sheet and its monitoring; The cardiopulmonary resuscitation technique and the modifications to the WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) list and the monitoring techniques were the five themes on the menu of this workshop.

During the workshop, medical doctors were given extensive information on cardiology, traumatology and doping control. On the first day, for example, experienced doctors such as RAKIA, Abdelhamid MOUSTAGFIR and Cyrille MUYOPA took the floor to talk about the PCMA model CAF, the CMS, the rhythm disorders and football practice, Ultrasound on the PCMA form applicable for all physicians starting in June of this year.

The second day, discussions were based on spinal injuries, which requires a good diagnosis for effective treatment, respect for stages of treatment and rehabilitation for returning to sport activities. Other themes were also on the agenda of discussions with Doctors AbderrazkHAFTI, TRABELSI, Yasser HOSNY and Sidiki BOUBAKARY on foot and ankle injuries, hence the importance of the STANISH protocol and mesotherapy in sports medicine; A pubalgia of the footballer, the adoption of the record of lesions and confirmation of the card of CMAM. All the medical cream expressed the wish to organize a round table on CAF-funded trauma research programs before moving on to a hands-on workshop on emergency management. In the recommendations sent to physicians, CAF delegates insisted on having a semi-automatic defibrillator next to the 4th referee before the kick-off of all matches, equipment that the TPM and its stadium have!

The third day was devoted to new features as in CAF's anti-doping program that wants our football to be healthy and clean. In addition to the already prohibited products, all doctors were given a list of 8 new prohibited products, including stimulants classified as caffeine, nicotine, narcotic; Glucocorticoids, telmisartan (melosartan and meldonium, which led to the suspension of the Russian tennis woman Maria SHARAPOVA); Beta-2-agonist, etc.

For our football to be healthy, doctors learned the strategies of anti-doping (concepts of Speak Up and Blowing Program) but especially on the AUT: which is an authorization to use substances or methods prohibited according to the list of AMA of the reference year. After that, the day ended up with a practical workshop on the anti-doping control procedure.

This seminar has been very beneficial for physicians involved in players' health. Notions that will optimize their performance in their respective soccer teams, allow everyone to be up to date on FIFA and especially CAF standards regarding the management and presentation of heart attack, Injuries and doping on and off the pitch.
